Philips Achieva 1.5T MRI scanners are considered superconducting magnets and typically have a doughnut shape that has miles of copper wire wrapped around the bore. The principle on how these operate is similar to what happens when you wrap a wire around a nail and run a current through the wire. As the electric current passes, a magnetic field is created. This generates heat that is tampered with liquid helium, allowing electricity to flow easily through wires and give the magnets their name.
